Successful replacement of an evaporation stage at Mercer in Rosenthal, Germany
In September 2025, GKT supplied a new evaporation stage for Mercer’s multi-effect evaporation plant at the Rosenthal site in Germany. Following an intensive planning and fabrication phase as well as close coordination with the customer, the unit was successfully installed and commissioned.
Replacing an evaporation stage places high demands on planning, fabrication and installation. Particularly in existing production plants, downtime must be kept to a minimum and all activities need to be precisely coordinated with ongoing plant operations. Thanks to the close cooperation of all project participants, the implementation was completed according to schedule.
The new evaporation stage is equipped with a plate bundle. This design enables easy cleaning, reduces maintenance requirements and contributes to high plant availability during continuous operation. At the same time, it provides a solid basis for reliable and economical long-term operation.

In addition to process design and fabrication, GKT also carried out the installation of the new evaporation stage. The close exchange between all parties involved contributed significantly to the smooth implementation of the project.
Thomas Herzog adds: “The technical consulting and close coordination during the quotation and planning phases were key factors in our decision to work with GKT. The project was implemented on schedule and in a highly professional manner.”
With this project, GKT once again demonstrates its expertise in the modernization of existing evaporation plants. The company supports customers from process design and fabrication through to installation and commissioning, developing solutions tailored to the respective process requirements.
The successful implementation also forms the basis for continuing the cooperation: In September 2026, GKT will replace another evaporation stage at the Rosenthal site.
Mercer operates one of Europe’s most modern pulp mills in Rosenthal. In addition to kraft pulp, the company also produces tall oil.
