Lactic acid plant for BCML: Important project milestones reached

Important project milestones have been reached in the construction of the lactic acid plant for Balrampur Chini Mills Ltd. (BCML) in India. During a joint site visit in early August, Cornelia Öhlinger and Florian Wundsam from GKT, together with Rushabh Shinde from Rieckermann India, reviewed the current construction progress and aligned on the next project steps.

As part of the project, GKT is supplying a large-scale industrial plant for the dehydration and distillation of lactic acid for BCML’s new PLA production facility in India. We previously reported on the order and the technological background of the project in an earlier news article.

In early August, Cornelia Öhlinger and Florian Wundsam from GKT, together with Rushabh Shinde from Rieckermann India, visited the construction site of the lactic acid plant. The site visit provided an opportunity to assess the current project status firsthand and to discuss outstanding technical and organizational topics.

At the time of the visit, the structural steelwork was nearly complete. The main components had already been installed within the steel structure, and a large portion of the main piping was also in place. This established key prerequisites for the upcoming project phases.

The next major milestone is the start of pre-commissioning activities, scheduled for mid-October. Commissioning of the plant is planned to begin immediately afterwards.
