Thin-film drying as a key technology in sewage sludge treatment

Thin-film dryers play a crucial role in this process, as they ensure stable operating conditions, adjustable drying levels and consistent product discharge even with challenging product properties such as a tendency to stick or difficult conveying behavior. At the same time, the material has a relatively short residence time in the dryer, which simplifies process control – an essential prerequisite for subsequent thermal utilization.
A current example is the thin-film dryer supplied by GKT for KMT GmbH in Germany. The unit is an integral part of a sewage sludge mono-incineration plant and, in ongoing operation, demonstrates the advantages of proven thin-film technology in demanding sewage sludge applications.
